Yesterday we went to one of a free workshop put on by Robert Kiyosaki's Rich Dad Education company. I enjoyed Rich Dad, Poor Dad; it makes a great point about how we are preconditioned to think in certain ways about money and financial success, so I was hoping to learn something new and liberating. I was sadly disappointed. I realized about 20 minutes into the presentation that I felt just like I was in an MLM recruiting meeting.
The thing I liked about Rich Dad, Poor Dad, and more recently, Conspiracy of the Rich, was the entrepreneurial philosophy the books aspire to teach. So a presentation that was really only an introduction to real estate investing strategies was a real letdown for me. After all, even if Kiyosaki is still making good money on real estate, his real big success of the past few years is his education company, Rich Dad Education. No sales pitch will convince me otherwise.
That said, I still think the original book is worth reading. Here are a couple more of our favorite books about smart business:
- The E-Myth Revisited: Why most small businesses don't work and what to do about it, by Michael Gerber
Also known as the small business bible, it explains how to graduate to working on your business instead of in it. - World Wide Rave: Creating triggers that get millions of people to spread your ideas and share your stories, by David Meerman Scott
The internet has completely changed the way we share and find information; this is how to harness the flow of information to achieve your goals.
